Finally on Sunday, 27 January, without rain the JOPPA Clowns made there first Mardi Gras parade in two years. All parades so far this season have been rained out on the Coast and they traveled to Slidell to parade with the Krewe of Dionysus.
There were eleven (11) clowns dressed and three in regular clothing. That was the first time the Clowns made a parade in Slidell in about 6 years. Without the help of our 2 new Clowns we could not have made it. I forgot say, those 2 new members are on the DIVAN.
The Clowns are rebuilding the unit and it seems that our hard work is paying off, thanks to everyone.
By the way the Clowns will be at the Shreveport Hospital in March. When are you going?
If you would like to attend with us in support of JOPPA Shrine we are leaving on the 30th in the afternoon and leaving the hospital around noon on the 31st March. Someone just said they can’t afford the gas or hotel room, sorry gang better check before you make excuses. If you want to join us you can email ZIPPER for additional information.
The JOPPA Clowns are looking for a few good men.
Here are 10 reasons that are given for not wanting to join the Clowns.
1. Another trip to the Shrine Center for a meeting.
Wrong. We meet at 6 PM prior to the stated Shrine meeting for approx 30 minute meeting.
2. Cost to much money for the outfits.
Wrong. Look in your closet some of the items are perfect however you just didn’t realize it.
3. Makeup cost too much.
Wrong. Most new clowns get it free from the older members and even costumes.
4. I can’t afford balloons.
Wrong. The Clown unit purchases balloons.
5. I can’t tie balloons or make anything with them.
Maybe you are right this time however it takes 5-10 minutes to learn the basic.
6. I can’t afford the expense of competition for the conventions.
Who says you had to compete, you can always dress out and make the parade.
7. I can’t afford the extra expense of DIXIE, SESCA and ISCA.
Who says you had to belong to those organizations, JOPPA Clown dues are $10
8. I can’t leave my spouse.
Only if you want to, the Clownettes meet the same time as we do and they are starting up again this year. I just hope they don’t outshine the men as they did in the past as the won most of the awards at the conventions.
9. I can’t go to work and let them know I am a clown, not in my profession.
Who has to know, I sat next to many Federal & State officials. Clowns are not call by there given name, we have our own. Such as: Pops, Windy, String-Bean, Flat-car, Zipper, Zip, Smiley, Toot, Rainbow, Fuzzy, Choo-Choo, Jeeprz, Chaps, Bubba. Can you name those clowns?
10. I wouldn’t know what to do.
Congratulations just act normal, see it is easy to be a clown.
Here is 1 reason to join JOPPA Temple.
1. Just ask Bob White as he was clowning with us for years and decided that he was interested in helping kids and now he is full member of JOPPA Shrine thanks to a few members of the DIVAN.
By the way if you need any more reasons and have the time to listen, call me. The Oriental Guide did and he is now a member. By the way the new Recorder saw some of our work first hand and I think he maybe a new member also. Like I said above only a Few Good (ACTIVE) Men.
